Engine Removal

Last night we removed the engine from the chassis ready for an overhaul. After a little effort, managed to free the engine from it's mountings. Found that I'd missed 3 nuts on the bell housing - which where covered in mud and grease. After removing these last bolts and a bit of jiggling about, the engine was free.

Then proceeded to remove the clutch, flywheel and flywheel housing from the engine. All seemed in pretty good condition, exlcuding the typical oil seal leak, as can be seen in the photo of the flywheel housing.

The engine was then ready to be mounted into the engine stand. Until I realised that I didn't have any bolts long enough to do the job! So I'll be buying some today, ready to mount the engine into the stand. I'll then be stripping the head & sump of to see what sort of condition the engine is actually in. For now, the engine is resting on my crane, supported by a few blocks of wood.
